TRACKING AND MANAGEMENT NEWS VOLUME 1, No 1 – Q2/2005
|
|
Welcome to our
first issue of ONTRACK – a
newsletter designed to keep our user community more in touch with what is
happening at QES.
We plan to publish
quarterly, and in future editions we will be adding new features to
broaden its usefulness and bring a wider perspective to it. You are receiving this newsletter
because as an industry professional, we believe you will be interested in
current developments at QES, a leader in product tracking in the pulp and
paper industry. We have added an ONTRACK archive area to our website so this newsletter
and all future issues will be archived for access at any time. Please feel
free to pass this on to anyone who you think may have an interest in the
happenings at QES and if anyone at your office would like to be added to
our ONTRACK distribution list, simply click on the
“Feedback” link at the bottom, enter the word Subscribe in the subject
line, and send the email to the webmaster. I would also be very happy to hear
if there are particular topics you would like to see covered in future
issues. The
preceding year was very exciting for QES with the release of new
products, the addition of new people, new implementations and the
extension of the core functionality of the BLACKBIRD PTMS suite in many
areas. 2005 & 2006 are
shaping up to be more of the same, so all of us here at QES are very
excited about the coming years.

LATEST
INSTALLATION |
BLACKBIRD'S 28th PRODUCTION LINE The BLACKBIRD® Product Tracking system from QES
now has its 28th pulp or paper production
line under its watchful eye! This milestone was a Q-BTS real time
bale tracking solution for a Market Pulp mill in southern BC, Canada. The implementation proceeded on
time and within the budget set by the client and the system is now
tracking and recording every bale produced at the mill. Included in the
package was QES’s innovative QualityCheck® system for management of quality records and
lab data entry for the Finished Product Lab. The lines under BLACKBIRD’s watch
include some of the most complex bales lines in the country and one of the
fastest roll wrapping lines in N.A.
See below for the details on the next BLACKBIRD home and watch this
space in future editions for details of projects that we have “in the
pipeline”! | ||||||||

THE
DEVELOPMENT TEAM |
LONG TERM EMPLOYEES This year 2 more members of the QES Development team will reach their 10th anniversary with QES, which for a company now just 14 years old, shows again the remarkable level of employee loyalty that QES is fortunate to enjoy. Add to this the 5 developers and project managers with 7-9 years and what you have is a VERY experienced development team. Most of our senior developers have been through several version upgrades of BLACKBIRD (and its predecessor PTMS) so if a client ever has a question about the system, the chances are that the original developer is still here to answer the question. That’s maintenance security!! In future editions, we will introduce you to our team so you will have a face to go with the name.

UPDATE |
WETLAB
5 Last summer QES was pleased to announce the
release of the first commercially available software package for plotting
and analyzing pulp physical strength results (beater curves). WetLab 5® automated the previously
tiresome manual process of drawing the curves that result from testing
pulp in a PFI mill or a lab refiner. NOW-
the latest release of WetLab 5® – Version 5.3 offers a wide range of
functionality improvements, technical upgrades and ease of use
improvements. Offering the
capability to manipulate curves, adjust, add or ignore points, adjust
interpolation intervals, select curve fitting approaches and present data
graphically in a number of formats, WetLab 5.3® solidifies its place as an
indispensable tool for Technical, Marketing and Customer Service
professionals. | ||||||||
