Product Event Tracking, Reporting, and Analysis (PETRA)
Extending the Functionality of Process Information Management Systems (PIMS) in the Process Manufacturing Industry
What is PETRA?
Industrial plants, like any continuous process facilities, are large capital investments, where asset optimization and continuous production of high quality product is the measure of success. Most large industrial plants today strive for 24/7 operations where downtime can lead to lost production that is unrecoverable.
With PETRA, plant managers now can have the tools to actively record, analyze, and report root causes for lost production.
What is PETRA? Enhanced PIMS Functionality
PETRA works alongside your InfoPlus.21, PI, MOPS or other Process Information Management System to monitor your plant processes on a minute-by-minute basis.
PETRA provides a framework of tools from which to analyze, explain, and ultimately facilitate removal of lost production time. PETRA captures and stores data in an open DBMS format that can easily be analyzed using PETRA's predefined reports, linked to spreadsheets, or even matched to corresponding cost accounting data from your corporate ERP System.
Specifically, How Does PETRA Work?
Step One — PETRA facilitates creation of a model of how the process of your mill is organized.
Step Two — through the continuous monitoring of process against target, every time a deviation from target occurs PETRA creates an event and logs it to the PETRA DBMS. These events capture the current and target production rates, as well as the duration and timing of the occurrence.
Step Three — with accurate inventories of downtime events stored in the PETRA DBMS, each coded with date time, reasons, duration, and equivalent lost production, PETRA allows Plant Managers, Process Engineers, and Cost Accountants to gain additional insights into plant operations that no PIM System or ERP alone can provide.
Why Would I Use PETRA?
PETRA provides insight into relationships between the processes in your plant. Without a tool like PETRA, you don't have the tools you need to continuously monitor and evaluate production losses. PETRA formalizes and refines your approach to getting accurate metrics of process downtime, and as described above, allows you to effectively address and deal with downtime events.
By blending lost production data with cost of manufacturing data, PETRA for the first time allows plant managers to accurately measure the cost of production loss when it happens – not weeks or months later.
Bottom Line
The PETRA package will provide your organization with a new perspective on lost production and will give you the tools to more effectively manage the process of capturing foregone revenue associated with lost productive time. PETRA will find application in almost every area of your operations: staff in Maintenance, Technical, Engineering, Operations including Production and Finishing areas, Utilities, and Accounting will all find PETRA to be an invaluable tool to take out costs, increase efficiency, and increase profits. PETRA can help you to drive higher profits from your existing plants.
PETRA has a role at your plant.
